Hannah Nunn is the founder of Kickstart Coffee, a Birmingham based social enterprise that proves business can be a force for far more than profit.

After spending years working in corporate HR, Hannah made a deliberate pivot. She saw talented people, particularly those facing barriers to employment, being overlooked. Instead of writing another policy document, she built a coffee company.

Kickstart Coffee doesn’t just serve great coffee. It creates paid employment, mentoring and confidence for people who need a genuine second chance. Hannah believes commercial viability and social impact are not opposing forces.

They’re partners. Her model blends high quality hospitality with structured support, workplace skills training and community connection. It’s practical idealism in action.

Today on Miracles Happen Here we’re exploring a business that proves something simple but powerful: sometimes the smallest everyday habits can change lives.

Most of us start the day with a cup of coffee. It’s routine. Almost automatic. But what if that morning coffee could also help educate hundreds of children?

That’s the idea behind Kickstart Coffee, founded by my guest today, Hannah Nunn.

The business began with a very clear purpose: to sustainably fund The Early Learning School in Entebbe, Uganda, which supports children from the low-income community of Katabi. When the project began in 2020, the school had just 87 children. Today, thanks to coffee sales, that number has grown to around 400 children learning and thriving every day.

The coffee itself is specialty grade, sourced directly from Mount Elgon, with a commitment to paying farmers fairly for their beans.

It’s a beautiful example of the quadruple bottom line in action: purpose, people, planet and profit.
