Steve Thorp is a writer and co-editor at Unpsychology Magazine and an online music Substack, Ziggy’s Lament. He has worked as an educationalist, psychotherapist and recently retired school counsellor. His work, over the past two decades, has been concerned with how social, ecological and political contexts affects psychological experience, and how humans beings respond creatively to these flows and interdependencies.
He has written and edited a number of books including a pair of publications on Race Equality and Science Teaching, Working for Wellbeing, which addressed wellbeing in schools, and a book of small essays, Soul Manifestos and Pieces of Joy. His poetry and essays have appeared in a number of books, and he has published a number of poetry books and pamphlets through Raw Mixture Publishing.
Unpsychology Magazine emerged from the Dark Mountain Project communkit in 2014, and since then there have been ten annual curated compilations of themed art, poetry, essays, stories and music.
Originally from the north East of England, and having lived and worked in Oxfordshire for much of his adult life, Steve now lives near the coast in Pembrokeshire. He currently keeps active playing tennis and bodyboarding. He is married with three adult children and two granddaughters.
