Geoff Mead was born into the post-war baby-boomer generation and was the first in his family to attend university—briefly dropping out before returning to complete a degree in medieval history. Unsure of his direction, he joined the police service, where he spent the next three decades, leaving as a Chief Superintendent.
During his policing career, Geoff worked at every level, from walking the beat to commanding a police district, directing national leadership programmes, and training with the FBI in the United States. Along the way, he completed an MBA, a postgraduate diploma in Gestalt psychology, and a PhD in action research. He later served on the faculty of the Prime Minister’s Top Management Programme and was a visiting research fellow at the University of Bath, supervising mature PhD students for a decade.
In his fifties, Geoff discovered the power of storytelling and its capacity to liberate the human spirit. He now performs traditional stories, runs story-based workshops, and teaches storytelling internationally. He also writes for academic and professional audiences, as well as producing poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. His work as a narrative consultant focuses on board development, authentic communication, and leadership.
Geoff has four adult children, five grandchildren, an entirely unreasonable love of Morgan sports cars, and divides his time between the Cotswolds and Lyme Regis, where he lives and writes by the sea.
