Naturalist and Writer

"Awaken to the genius of the place (nature) you call home."

Briony Penn is a naturalist, writer, educator, and artist who received international attention when she protested logging on Salt Spring Island by riding horseback through downtown Vancouver while nearly nude and dressed as Lady Godiva.

She is well known in BC for her indomitable spirit and tireless devotion to protecting endangered species and sensitive ecosystems in her native British Columbia.

A pioneer of barefoot mapping, she has created maps and led workshops assisting communities to map their cherished places for nearly two decades, culminating in several books including Islands in the Salish Sea: A Community Atlas, nominated for the BC Book Awards.
