Andrew Simms is an author, political economist and campaigner. He co-authored the original Green New Deal, came up with Earth Overshoot Day (https://www.overshootday.org/about-earth-overshoot-day/), and jointly proposed the Fossil Fuel Non Proliferation Treaty (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/oct/23/fossil-fuel-non-proliferation-treaty-climate-breakdown) (with Prof Peter Newell).
He is co-director of the New Weather Institute , coordinator of the Rapid Transition Alliance, assistant director of Scientists for Global Responsibility, and a research associate at the University of Sussex.
He set up and coordinates the Badvertising campaign to stop adverts fuelling the climate emergency and his books include Cancel the Apocalypse, Ecological Debt, Do Good Lives Have to Cost the Earth, the heterodox guide, Economics: A Crash Course, and Badvertising. He was called a ‘master at joined-up progressive thinking’ by New Scientist magazine.
