Andrew Whitley

Organic Baker and Author

Andrew left a career as a producer in the BBC Russian Service in 1976 to found 'The Village Bakery Melmerby', which became one of the country’s leading organic bakeries.

He stepped down from The Village Bakery in 2002 to concentrate on teaching, campaigning on food and health, and writing. He is the author of the award-winning 'Bread Matters' and the best-selling 'DO Sourdough'.

He is Executive Chairman of Scotland the Bread, co-founded the Real Bread Campaign and is a former vice-chair of the Soil Association.
