Allan Savory is a Zimbabwe-born biologist and farmer who discovered the cause of grassland degradation and desertification in the 1960s. He worked with managers on four continents to develop regenerative solutions as a resource management consultant. He also served as a Member of Parliament in Zimbabwe and became the leader of the opposition to the ruling party. He was exiled in 1979 and moved to the United States, where he continued to work with land managers.
In 1992, he formed a non-profit organization, the Africa Centre for Holistic Management, in Zimbabwe, and in 2009, he co-founded the Savory Institute in Colorado to train people in holistic land management. Savory's book, Holistic Management, describes his workable solutions for communities and businesses. He has received several awards for his environmental work.
