Chief Arvol Looking Horse

Chief of the Sioux Nation

"Be respectful. Be humble."

At the young age of 12, Arvol became the 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe – making him chief and spiritual leader of all three branches of the Sioux Tribe.

Over the past four and half decades, Chief Looking Horse has dedicated himself to the promotion of world peace and religious freedom. And as the founder of World Peace & Prayer Day, he’s met with religious and spiritual leaders all over the world, including the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, to unite in a shared belief of peace.

His speaking engagements range from opening prayers before numerous sessions of the United Nations to speaking on world peace at President Clinton’s inauguration in 1996.

He is also a leading voice in the protest against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline
