Sir Tim Smit KBE is the co-founder of the Eden Project, one of the UK’s most ambitious environmental and educational projects.
Built in a former clay pit near St Austell in Cornwall, Eden transformed a sterile industrial landscape into a living demonstration of the relationship between people, plants and the planet. Since opening to the public in 2001, it has welcomed millions of visitors and become a symbol of ecological imagination, regeneration and human possibility.
Before Eden, Tim helped restore the Lost Gardens of Heligan, another landmark Cornish project that brought a forgotten historic garden back to life. His career has also included archaeology, music production, writing and social enterprise, but his work has consistently returned to one central question: how do we help people reconnect with the natural world and believe they can change the places around them?
Today, through Eden and its expanding projects, Tim continues to explore how culture, business, education, food, landscape and community can come together to create a more hopeful future.
