By 2050, we will need to feed 9 billion people worldwide. A mammoth challenge. The food that is currently produced is enough for every citizen of the globe to consume 2800 calories a day - that's enough for everyone to be gaining weight - and yet millions are already living in starvation.
Thanks to Ciara and Emer, a bacteria found on peas might just bring us a step closer to solving this challenge.
Their story reminds us that ideas can come from the most unexpected places. That it is our job to make sure young talent does not go unrecognised. A seed without nourishment will not grow, and it is our responsibility to build an environment where young people can create, and solve the issues of our time.
